Early detection saves lives. The Red Flags of Sarcoma Program is designed to increase awareness of potential warning signs of sarcoma and support earlier evaluation and referral. Because sarcoma is rare and symptoms can appear subtle, education plays a critical role in reducing delays in diagnosis.
While most lumps, bumps, and bruises are not cancer, sarcoma outcomes are often improved when the disease is identified early. This program encourages vigilance, timely assessment, and informed clinical decision making.
Key Signs Of Sarcoma
Healthcare professionals are encouraged to consider further evaluation when patients present with:

Lumps, Bumps and Bruises: The Red Flags Of Sarcoma
Any Lump Or Bump That Are:
- Deep within the tissue
New or increasing in size
- Approximately one to two inches or larger
- Located anywhere in the body
- Painful or painless, as not all sarcomas cause pain
Pain That:
- Painful or painless, as not all sarcomas cause pain
- Occurs at night
- Persists despite rest or treatment
- Lasts longer than one month
When To Consider Further Evaluation
- Pain that seems disproportionate to an injury
- Pain that does not improve with standard treatment
Asymmetry in areas of the body that should appear the same
- Discomfort or limited movement in an arm or leg
A growing mass that may or may not be painful
